Hello! It’s Jill Coleman here from Active Schools, if we’ve not already met I’m the Active Schools Coordinator at Pilrig Park School.
My role is to work alongside school to look at different ways to get more young people active in school and increase community opportunities for learners.
Many of you will know me from Pilrig Park afterschool club however I also work during curriculum time adding to the range of physical activities that are provided by school.
I have worked alongside teaching staff as part of the Friday morning activities, mentor young leaders to develop sports coaching skills and support them to attend Active Schools Leadership Academy.
I also link with local sports clubs and Sports Governing Bodies who deliver sports taster sessions in school so children have the chance to new and different sports they may not normally get a chance to try, the most recent being judo delivered by a disability specific Judo club based in Edinburgh. As well as these short term pieces of work I am involved in longer term projects. This includes the Active Schools/Edinburgh Dance Academy annual dance partnership, a piece of work funded by Active Schools which saw the delivery of 10 weeks of dance in school giving pupils the chance to have some dance fun.
I work in partnership with Scottish Disability Sport and Lothian Disability Sport to deliver a range of sporting events that Pilrig Park have participated in – the past couple of years have been impacted by COVID but I’m hopeful these opportunities will return very soon.
During holiday periods I work with a small team of Active Schools colleagues and partners to deliver sports camps. The most recent of these being during the Easter break -3 days of ASN swim lessons at the Royal High School. We are currently developing our summer programme which will be promoted within school.
If you would like to find out more about physical activity opportunities for your child please feel free to contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org or 07920 768288.
