Geography

 

Broad and General Education:

Pupils’ in Geography study a wide range of topics on a number of local, national and global contexts. They learn about the importance of people and their relationship with the environment. These are designed to build on prior knowledge and understanding as they move through the BGE Phase which enables them to become Successful learners, Confident Individuals, Effective Contributors, and Responsible citizens.

These courses incorporate Active learning strategies and Differentiation with the use of ICT embedded into lessons to support learning. Courses provide depth, challenge and progression by encouraging pupils to develop their own research strategies and contribute to classroom discussion.

Senior Phase:

In the Senior Phase, National 2 Social Subjects and National 3 Geography awards are available to pupils’ in S4 and S5 building on their learning from Broad and General

Education.

These courses enable learners’ to develop core skills in communication, literacy, numeracy, decision making, problem solving and ICT. The ultimate aim is to help them prepare for the world of work and further afield.

S4 –Pupils can study National 1 Social subjects including the following units the National World & People and Society.

s4 – Pupils study National 2 Social Subjects gaining more confidence and independence by studying Weather and Climate and the contrast of life in Scotland.

S5 – Pupils study National 3 Geography studying Rivers and their Valleys, Poor and Rich World, and Earthquakes and Volcanoes.
